why this exists
I set my region filters to the max. I still only matched with people asleep on the other side of the world.
Every avatar-first app I tried was built by people who forgot a room has to be local to feel full - you can't fill one labelled "everyone." So I'm building the one I actually wanted: your timezone, your languages, your kind of weird, and a door that opens for a whole region at once, so night one isn't a ghost town of three people and a bot.
It's not pink, and it's not a swipe-deck of strangers who'll be asleep by the time you log on. And you don't have to show your face before you've said a word - your people, as whoever you choose to be.

Is anyone actually on it yet?
Not yet - that's exactly what the waitlist is for. Wave 01 invites go out to one region at once, so day one is a full room instead of a ghost town. No fake counters, no bots padding the numbers.
How is this different from Flirtual or Nevermet?
Respect first: Flirtual proved avatar-first dating works - on a team of three - and Nevermet actually ID-verifies 18+. But on Flirtual, region and language are a nudge, not a wall: max your filters and the feed is still mostly American, free browsing is capped, and who-liked-you sits behind a paywall. Nevermet is €23/mo, has no language filters, blurs your free chat after a few messages, and schedules its events around US time zones - when you can find a schedule at all. Waveback's bet: hard region and language filters, chat that never blurs once someone waves back, one pool with intent up front - and none of it exists yet, which is exactly what this waitlist is for.
Is this a hookup app?
No. Intent sits at the top of every profile - friends, something more, or both - and friend-seeking is a first-class way to use Waveback, not a side mode. Nobody has to pretend. And the room has rules: read how we keep it safe.
What happens to my data?
Your email gets Waveback updates, nothing else. Age verification runs through a third-party provider - Waveback never sees or stores your documents. Built in the EU, under EU privacy law.

One person in the Netherlands, building the app I kept wishing existed while living in VRChat after midnight. No company, no growth team - me, a long to-do list, and this waitlist.
